The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to award a service contract to Amira Medical Technologies for biochemical and wet lab services. Amira Medical Technologies Inc. (Amira) is a medical diagnostic startup with a focus on diagnostic methods for Alzheimer’s Disease and other protein misfolding disorders using spectral confocal microscopy. Amira’s existing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) spectral test has already solved many of the problems for collecting and processing spectra from blood and this knowledge will be extended to the metal-enriched amyloid generated through Ucalgary research team’s project, outlined in UCalgary/CABHI Investment Agreement IGNITE-2-00692 for the project “Metal-assisted fluorescence spectroscopy for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders". Because this spectral analysis method is proprietary to Amira Medical Technologies, they are uniquely qualified to provide biochemical and wet lab services and analysis for the project. It is UCalgary’s intention to establish a one-year agreement, with the potential for a one-year renewal option subject to the availability of future funding, with Amira Medical Technologies Inc.
