This Request for Proposals (the “RFP”) is an invitation by Parkland County (the “County”) to prospective proponents to submit proposals for Design-Build Services for a Wabamun Multi-Use Trail Connection, as further described in Section A of the RFP Particulars (Appendix A) (the “Deliverables”).
The Hamlet of Wabamun is a significant recreational, residential, and tourism destination within Parkland County, serving both local residents and visitors accessing Wabamun Lake, Wabamun Provincial Park, Waterfront Park, local businesses, schools, and community amenities. Currently, gaps in active transportation infrastructure exist between Wabamun Provincial Park and the Waterfront Park area. Pedestrians, cyclists, mobility device users, and other non-motorized users must travel along portions of 50 Street where dedicated active transportation facilities are limited or discontinuous.
The proposed Multi-Use Trail Connection will establish a safe, accessible, and continuous corridor linking these destinations while supporting the County's goals for active transportation, community connectivity, accessibility, tourism development, healthy lifestyles, and sustainable transportation.
Parkland County is a rural municipality located immediately west of Edmonton. Covering an area of 256,802 hectares (634,571 acres), it is one of the largest in size and one of the highest populated of all rural municipalities in Alberta. Parkland County has grown to a community of over 30,000 people and has seen generations of families continue to enjoy country living.
