The AUC is developing an operational audit, inspection and compliance function in support of its mandate to protect the social, economic and environmental interests of Alberta.
AUC staff have completed a preliminary mapping exercise of operational obligations that utility operators in Alberta are subject to across the following identified impact domains: environmental, health, safety, reliability, noise, visual impacts, agricultural land and emergency management. These obligations are set out by asset-type (electric – distribution, electric – transmission, power generation, energy storage, and gas utility pipelines). For each obligation, the AUC has identified the source of jurisdiction and the authority having jurisdiction.
The AUC requires external expertise to validate and finalize this mapping with a focus on obligations under the AUC’s jurisdiction, and to translate it into an operational, risk-based audit, inspection and compliance program, including prioritization and audit and investigation planning.
