3. Criteria for assessment of the Statement of Capabilities

Minimum Essential Requirements

Any interested supplier must demonstrate by way of a statement of capabilities that its bassoon musical instrument meets the following
requirements:

a. Of great importance to this bassoon in particular, is the position and configuration of the bocal (the metal tube upon which a reed is attached which vibrates to produce the sound). This bassoon has been identified as the instrument which most suits the musician’s physical abilities. Also the layout of the keys upon which you place your fingers can vary greatly depending on the manufacturer’s design. For instance, if one designer is a large man, the keys would be spaced differently than one designed by a smaller woman. The evidence of this can be seen in many keyed instruments such as saxophones, clarinets, flutes, etc. This instrument has been identified as a perfect matchfor the musician’s han

ds and physical makeup.

b. Must be able to play in different tuning configurations depending on the application. For example, standard pitch is A440Hz and can vary greatly between makers i.e. A438Hz-A442Hz.

c. The instrument must be specifically designed and tuned to play at A440Hz which fits the requirement for the Stadacona Band.

d. The instrument identified has a projecting clear tone that can be heard alongside a number of brass and percussion instruments, but also able to easily play softly when supporting a woodwind chamber ensemble.
