Background:
Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) - Valcartier
would like to acquire two (2) high voltage (HV) Tesla coils for
laser guiding of high voltage discharges.
Laser guiding of HV discharges is a new issue for security and
defence. Laser filament produces by ultrafast laser pulse has
recently made possible the precise guiding of high voltage
discharges. As part of our project, laser guiding of HV will be
done using synchronized Tesla coils. To obtain good laser
guiding of the HV discharges, the HV burst from the Tesla coil
must be powerful enough and synchronized with an external
trigger. The synchronized Tesla coils will be incorporated into
an existing ultrafast laser system.
The HV Tesla coils must be triggered by an external fiber optic
trigger. Both the number of HV burst per second and the HV burst
pulsewidth must be adjustable via the fiber optics interface.
The jitter between the beginning of the HV burst generated by
the Tesla coils and the optical signal in the fiber should be
less than 500 ns. The HV Tesla coils should be powered by a
208-240VAC, 20A, 1 phase at 60 Hz electric source. For more
details, please refer to the technical specifications and
components required in this Request For Proposal.
