Gas chromatographs with flame ionization detector / Qty (6)
The Drug Analysis Service (DAS) from Health Canada, Regions and
Programs Bureau, requires the purchase of six (6) gas
chromatographs with flame ionization detector. Each instrument
must be equipped with an autosampler which can accommodate 150
samples with two (2) injectors, two (2) injection ports
"split/splitless" type, two (2) flame ionization detectors
(FID), a barcode reader (10 characters) a data processing system
(computer) and a printer. In addition, the manufacturer must
also provide the software needed for the proper functioning of
all modules of the instrument as well as raw data recording.
Sole source justification:
1. The operating software of the new instruments must be
compatible with the software currently used. This is necessary
for the treatment of previously acquired raw data. Over the past
years, databases were built with more than 1,100 drug
references. Consistency in the format of our data and a high
degree of confidence in the continuity of our operations will
then be assured. The use of the ChemStation platform, provided
by Agilent, ensures us a seamless transition for user.
Another benefit is that no training will be required for the use
of the new instruments, representing a significant saving in
training time and analysis.
2. The oven must allow for up to 20 programs of temperature
ramps, as well as 21 plateaus. Negative ramps must also be
possible. This allows greater flexibility in the development of
new method to meet the most complex separation needs.
3. The chromatographic performance regarding retention time must
be 107 (± 10%). The DAS
quantify a number of controlled substances and this linearity
allows us a greater range of quantification.
7. The oven cooling time in typical conditions of use (450°C to
50°C; without accessories such as the 'fast GC') must be 4
minutes or less. This represents a non-negligible time economy,
increasing our execution speed per analysis.
8. The system must allow pressure electronic control of ± 0.001
psi (for a pressure between 0 and 99,999 psi). Greater retention
time reproducibility is then obtained.
9. Following the ISO 17025 accreditation of all the DAS
laboratories, several procedures were set up to meet the
requirements of the International Organization for
Standardization. The creation of procedures have required a
significant investment in terms of human resources (writing,
revision, training, maintenance, etc.) and monetary. A change of
the current platform (Agilent) would require a complete redesign
of several procedures (for example, the procedures surrounding
the use, maintenance and the qualification of the GC - FID).
Requirement:
More specifically:
1. System capabilities
Electronic pressure control (EPC) with a precision to ±0.001
psi;
Retention time repeatability 107
Triadecane sensitivity
