The Watermain Extension Program was created to improve the existing water system for better connectivity and looping. This program provides the following benefits:
- Improve fire flow for existing areas
- Reduce/mitigate water quality concerns
- Improve the system design to meet current design standard
- Establish better water network for future redevelopment, and operational considerations
This program identified two watermain upgrades that includes the crossing of Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) track/RoW (Righ-of-Way). The upgrade projects are on 15 St SE between 9 Av SE & 20 Av SE (hereafter referred to 15st). This project also includes a water main upgrade and storm drainage upgrade on 19 Av SE. The second project is a water main upgrade on 26 Av SE at Dartmouth Rd/Highfield Rd SE (hereafter referred to Dartmouth Rd). For both projects, due to the geotechnical conditions, the crossings of the CPKC RoW will be completed using Horizontal Hammer Boring of a 750mm diameter steel casing with the installation of the carrier pipe within the installed casing. All other work on the projects will be with open cut construction.
