Watermain Replacement
Calgary’s water distribution system includes many aging metallic watermains that are vulnerable to corrosion, leaks, and failures due to age and local soil conditions. These deteriorating assets increase the risk of service disruptions, emergency repairs, public safety concerns, and higher lifecycle costs. The Water Main Replacement Program uses a risk‑based, data‑driven approach to proactively replace or rehabilitate the highest‑risk infrastructure, improving system reliability, reducing unplanned outages, and ensuring the continued delivery of safe drinking water.
The following are the watermain locations needing replacement:
· 19 AV SW from 14 ST SW to 15 ST SW
· 32 AV SW from 16 ST SW to 17 ST SW
· 10 ST SW from Premier WY SW to Dorchester AV SW
· Colborne Crescent SW from 12 ST to 13 ST SW
Storm Extension
In addition, two storm main extension projects funded through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund are being advanced to address capacity limitations in existing storm infrastructure. These upgrades are required to support higher‑density redevelopment, reduce drainage risks, and enable timely housing growth by removing servicing constraints. Together, these investments support infrastructure resilience, housing acceleration, and long‑term community sustainability.
The following are the locations requiring storm extensions:
· 38 ST SW from 10 AV SW to 8 AV SW
· Elbow DR SW from 9751 Elbow DR SW to Havenhurst CR SW
