To supply three (3) GE MAC 5500 electrocardiogram (EKG) machines for Indigenous Services Canada, High Level , AB. Delivery is requested by March 31, 2020.
Sole Source Justification:
The recommendation by Alberta Health Services is for Alberta sites that do not have an EKG technologist and are not doing pacemaker analysis, to purchase a MAC5500. The remote nursing stations in First Nations communities that Indigenous Services Canada is responsible for, do not staff EKG technologists.
The machines MUST have immediate fax AND email capability to ensure timely patient treatment for medical emergencies. Due to connectivity issues in remote First Nations communities, two methods of communication are required so medical results can be sent immediately to off-site physicians.
The MAC 5500 HD EKG machine is the ONLY EKG machine that has both options.
The MAC 5500 machine is the same machine that is used by provincial paramedics and is compatible and interchangeable with provincial equipment.
Using the same machine currently in use by many Alberta Health Services facilities, and the paramedics working in remote First Nations communities, ensures increased response to a medical emergency by reducing required training and unfamiliarity with different machines.
GE devices are compatible within the provincial health care system, thus eliminates data re-entry and is capable of being used for serial comparisons. EKGs acquired through a non-GE device cannot be used for serial comparisons. This feature is critical in being able to identify changes in a patient’s status.
GE Healthcare is the sole manufacturer of the MAC 5500.
