PRODUCTION OF FOUR (4) INTEGRATED STORAGE CRADLES FOR MID-SHORE
PROPELLER SHAFTS

The Canadian Coast Guard has a requirement for the production of
four (4) integrated storage cradle that will accommodate the
long-term maintenance, storage, and shipping requirements for
the spare propeller shafts for the Mid-Shore Patrol Vessels in
accordance with supplied construction drawings. The storage
cradles will be stackable in any 2 X 2 configuration.

The fabrication and commissioning of the four (4) storage
cradles by a CSA W47.1 certified company in accordance with
supplied construction drawings and Annex ''B'' to the Request
for Proposal - Technical Specification. The scope of work
includes the fabrication, testing, certification, delivery and
commissioning of the cradles and lifting beams. This includes
the final testing of the cradles with the actual propeller
shafts inserted.

The General Particulars of Propeller Shafts are as follows:

a. Weight of propeller shaft with twin tube inserted. 1830 kg
b. Length of propeller shaft with twin tube inserted, Reference:
Rolls Royce Dwg. No. RRM200005965: 8856 mm
c. Diameter at the hub flange: Ø500mm
d. Diameters along the rest of the shaft, Varies between Ø120mm
& Ø220mm
e. Centre of Gravity with twin tube inserted, hub removed,
Reference: Rolls Royce Dwg. No. RRM200005965 4104 mm (distance
from hub-end)

General Particulars of Storage Cradle are as follows:

a. Estimated weight for the complete frame assembly with seats
and roller supports (excluding shaft) 1356 kg (2,990 lbs)
b. Estimated weight for lifting beam 295 kg (650 lbs)
c. Design dimensions (excluding shaft) Approximations - see
reference drawings for details. Length 9144 mm (360 in) xWidth
762 mm (30 in) xHeight 35 inches

Performance criteria for the stackable storage cradles:

a. Shaft is straight when resting on the cradle.
b. All supports are in full contact lengthwise with shaft.
c. Clamping discs will secure shaft for shipping.
d. Caps can be secured and will make firm contact with the shaft
when tightened.
e. Caps can be raised on the split nut with sufficient clearance
to facilitate shaft rotation.
f. Lifting rollers will raise shaft clear of supports.
g. Shaft can be rotated by hand on the rollers.
h. Lifting rollers can be lowered so that they are not in
contact with resting shaft.
i. Cradle and shaft assembly will be near horizontal when lifted.
j. Cradles are able to stack and un-stack without binding.
k. Shafts can be rotated inside cradles while they are
stacked 2 high
l. Record total weight below the hook when the cradle is lifted
complete with the shaft.
