Full description

BACKGROUND

The Salmonid Enhancement Program (SEP), a branch of Department of Fisheries and Oceans, enhances several stocks and species of salmon in British Columbia. The Shuswap River Hatchery is part of this program and has been producing chinook and some coho salmon since 1982. The chinook produced are available for harvest to marine and freshwater user groups. The Shuswap chinook are also an indicator stock for interior chinook. The hatchery fish are tagged with coded wire tags before release and are later assessed in fisheries and escapements by the Stock Assessment Division. This contract is for the continuing requirement of chinook enhancement on the Shuswap River to meet assessment and escapement needs.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Contractor is to acquire a specified number of eggs from two local chinook stocks from the late summer of 2013 through the fall of 2016 for hatchery production of acceptable quality fry and smolts.

The contractor will be required to collect adult broodstock, spawn and incubate eggs, pond and rear fry for eventual release back to their respective locale of origin.

The Contractor will also be required to operate the Shuswap River Hatchery in a manner consistent with accepted practices of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans hatcheries
