Industry Canada (IC) has recognized that the organization needs to improve its performance across the spectrum of Information Management (IM) and has undertaken initiatives to address these areas.IC is in the process of identifying the business drivers, methods, strategic priorities, and the planning considerations to ensure that investments in information management respond to the departmental challenges ahead.Ensuring the quality, reliability, and integrity of the Department’s information is therefore paramount to ensuring decision making from a position of high confidence, and the delivery of effective, efficient pro-grams and services. Effective IM will protect and preserve IC's corporate memory. The Office of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at IC has formulated an integrated approach for its IM, and IT divisions to work together to deliver a robust and sustainable infrastructure that would establish IC as a strong, efficient and effective knowledge based organization, that ensures IM compliance and a work environment that is consistent with the expectations of employees and clients.Key to the success of that approach is the introduction of the integrated EDRMS work environment, GCDOCS, for IC that will form the platform of the new work environment. The Department faces a number of information management challenges that can be addressed through the deployment and use of GCDOCS.The deployment of GCDOCS will move IC to a common, or at least shared, platform for all facets of In-formation Services and Technology.
