1.0 Scope
1.1 Design for modular building
The West Vancouver Laboratory is undergoing a growth phase to realize the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre (PSEC). As part of the PSEC there is a larger Master Planning process underway for the site in the long term.
In the short term the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is planning on installing a modular building to accommodate immediate science needs. The modular building is planned to relocate the feed production facilities.
1.2 Renovation of the existing feed labs
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) also plans to renovate the existing feed labs at the West Vancouver Laboratory. This includes the demolition of existing concrete block walls and a free standing cooler to make way for new laboratory rooms.
1.3 Introduction
DFO requires construction and installation of a modular fabricated 24x24 building. The building frame and building have been ordered and will be delivered to site. The construction contract is responsible for assembly and all connections including HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc. as shown on attached specs. DFO also requires the demolition and renovation of two labs on site.
1.4 Objectives of the Requirement
The purpose of the design and spec package is to provide drawings for tender and or fabrication requirements to construct a feed shed and to renovate the feed labs.
1.5 Background, Assumptions and Specific Scope of the Requirement
DFO has been using modular buildings for Search and Rescue Operations and for various field camps. The purpose of these buildings is to provide flexibility into the future as they can be moved and repurposed in other locations. As the WVL is under potential large major capital changes it is our desire to only put in infrastructure in the short term that can be moved and or repurposed. The modular feed shed will contain a cold room for storage and will also be able to store large equipment.
The Pacific Science Enterprise Centre (PSEC) is almost at capacity and is in need of some minor changes to existing space to facilitate the accommodation of additional research space as well as a teaching/flex laboratmy space for the West Vancouver Academy (WVA) by September 2018. There will be three new laboratories after the renovations are completed. There will be a research lab for the Southern Resident Killer Whale (SRKW) research in Room 131, a shared equipment room between the new SRKW lab and the existing Analytical Chemist1y Lab Equipment Room in Room 129C, and a teaching lab for the West Vancouver School Board adjacent to the SRKW Lab in Room 129A.
