The Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Earth Sciences Sector (ESS), Central and Northern Canada Branch-Geological Survey of Canada has a requirement to interpret selected air photos on surficial geology in the Southampton Island area( NTS sheet 046B), in accordance with current Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) cartographic standards and the GSC Surficial Data Model. The scale of mapping is 1:125 000. The area covered is 9300 km2.
The Contractor is to provide detailed surficial geology interpretation of ~1:60 000 scale air photos, comprising polygon, linear and point symbols pertaining to the surficial geology of the area, based on the GSC standard surficial legend provided by NRCan. NRCan will provide all necessary paper format air photos.
The work is divided in two phases:
1. Airphotos interpretation
The interpreted surficial geology must be hand-drawn directly on the air photos with medium to be agreed upon.
The Contractor must ensure the interpreted geology is edge-matched with the surrounding surficial geology map sheets where applicable. The level of details including number and size of polygons, lines and points are consistent between map sheets where applicable. Air photos will be provided to the Contractor.
2. Surficial geology map edits
After NRCan has scanned, digitized and compiled the interpreted air photos, a hardcopy and digital copy of the preliminary map will be returned to the Contractor. As a measure of quality control, it is the Contractor’s responsibility to make any necessary edits such as labeling untagged polygons, eliminating duplicate tags in polygons, etc...
The progress reports will be in English. The work is to be completed off-site and no travel is involved.
The maps may be released separately by NTS sheet as a GSC Canadian Geoscience Preliminary Map publication at 1:125 000 scale, and the Contractor (and collaborators) will be acknowledged as the first authors
