Canada requires the design and production of a Book of
Remembrance for the War of 1812. This new book will join the
existing seven Books of Remembrance currently held in the
Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.
Canada's seven Books of Remembrance represent, individually and
collectively, the highest expressions of modern workmanship and
artistry. The craftsmanship, heraldry, illumination,
calligraphy, bookbinding and leather tooling give the books a
special look and quality unequalled the world over. Each Book
represents "the marriage of inspired art and impeccable
craftsmanship."
These Books commemorate Canada's young soldiers, nurses,
sailors, merchant mariners, and Air Force men and women who lost
their lives during times of peace and conflict. They are
testaments to the valour, sacrifice and selflessness of those
Canadians who have died in military service.
