SR-1472 Finite Element Vibration Modeling Methods for Vessels

Fax No. - (902) 496-5016
Requirement:
The objective of this project is to identify proper methods of
creating finite element models for the purpose of determining
vibrations on local vessel structures due to hard and
resiliently mounted equipment. This project is intended to
identify the baseline requirements for creating a local (i.e.
non-full ship) finite element model of a ship structure,
including minimum element density, model extents, boundary
conditions, damping loss factors, source definitions, and the
degree of accuracy that can be expected by using these baseline
procedures as well as from more complex models. As part of
this effort it is intended to identify methods of model
simplification that will minimize loss of accuracy while
improving the speed with which models can be created and
analyzed. The work will be validated by performing measurements
on two operational ships and comparing them to results predicted
by finite element analysis of these same vessels using measured
loads and excitations. This contract will be performed in two
phases, with Phase 1 focussing on the modelling and numerical
predictions and Phase 2 on the measurements and comparisons.
Phase 2 will be contingent on the results from Phase 1 as well
as the confirmation of available funding. This work is
contracted on behalf of the US-Canada Interagency Ship Structure
Committee.
Duration:
To begin upon contrct award and completed by March 31, 2013, for
completion of Phase 1.
Funding:
Phase 1: The maximum funding available for this requirement is
$65,000.00 + HST
Phase 2: $65,000.00 + HST (dependant on completion of Phase 1,
and subject to available funding)
Basis of selection: will be based on the highest point rated
complient bid within budget.
