Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has a requirement study to measure the quantitative economic benefits that accrue to the Canadian economy from the public geoscientific information generated by the Geomapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) and the Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI) programs. The main tasks are:
Analysis conducted through document and literature review, the examination of publicly available data and data provided by NRCan. Furthermore, where necessary, perform independent research into suitable assumptions and may consult with key stakeholders to address data gaps.
International benchmarking analysis conducted to measure the merits and performance of TGI and GEM relative to similar programs in other countries.
Assessing the study findings against the relative value of geoscience spending by Canada's competition in the mining space, such as Australia or the United States.
