Background
The Department of National Defence, Recovery Salvage Support
Section (RASS), at CFB Trenton is to provide a centralized
Aircraft Recovery and Salvage Support Capability to the Royal
Canadian Air Force. The team's mandate is to supply rapidly
deployable aircraft recovery equipment and expertise to assist
Air Force Wings with aircraft recovery and salvage operations.
RASS currently has an inventory of various types of temporary
roadways but they are very heavy and cumbersome and require the
use of a forklift. Unless current equipment is enhanced, the CF
will have extremely limited options in terms of a heavy aircraft
recovery utilizing debog recovery in any situation, especially
in remote locations. Current equipment is extremely limited in
its use as it requires significant ground preparation (for
example, preparation on soft or frozen ground) which is, not
always possible.
Current Deficiency
RASS is currently in need of a rapidly deployable C17 Debog
system to significantly reduce RASS response and recovery time.
Currently held equipment does not meet these requirements in
many situations. This equipment is required to allow RASS to
continue meeting its mandate IAW 1 Cdn Air Div Order, Vol 6,
6-310.
All the deliverables must be received on or before March 30,
2014.
