DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
Construction contract to replace Mississagua Lake Dam located at the outlet of Mississagua Lake. The dam is accessible via Dam Road in the township of Galway-Cavendish-Harvey, Ontario.
The work generally consists of replacing the existing concrete dam built in 1930 with a new cast-in-place concrete dam directly downstream from the existing dam. The concrete overflow weir will be repaired in-place including placement of riprap both upstream and downstream. A staged cofferdam strategy will be required to divert river flow around the work area and maintain operability of the dam throughout construction. Innovative construction techniques will be required. Access to the dam from land is by an existing portage trail, which will require some improvements for construction access. A permanent access road, to also be used as a construction access road, will also be constructed along the downstream face of the existing overflow, which will require tree clearing and grubbing. The timeline to complete the work is tight. In-water work restrictions related to warm and cool water fish spawning and spring freshet apply.
Contractor area of specialization is mass marine concrete construction (dams) as well as key sub-trades specializing in heavy civil, crane hoisting and rigging, marine installations, environmental protection, structural steel and miscellaneous metals and heavy timber supply. The contract will involve work in winter conditions as well as a temporary road closure and associated traffic diversion.
See attached drawings and specifications for detailed scope of work.
