PROJECT IDENTIFICATION:
Project number R.010565.506, Timiskaming Ontario Dam Replacement
Project. Located on Long Sault Island, Ontario, on the Ottawa
River.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Timiskaming Dam Complex is located approximately 65
kilometres northeast of North Bay, Ontario, on the border
between Quebec and Ontario. It includes two structurally
independent dams, the Ontario dam and the Quebec dam, which are
located on opposite sides of Long Sault Island in the Ottawa
River. This requirement is for the replacement of the Ontario
structure only (also referred to as the Timiskaming Ontario
Dam). The dams were built between 1909 and 1913 by the
Government of Canada in order to control the water level in Lake
Timiskaming upstream and the flow of the Ottawa River
downstream. Both dams are constructed of concrete structures
that control the water flow by means of sluices containing
removable stoplogs. The dams control the last major reservoir on
the Ottawa River upstream from the St. Lawrence River at
Montréal. The work consist of, but not be limited to, the
following:
- Construction of a new Ontario dam to replace the existing
Ontario one; and
- Demolition and removal of the existing Ontario dam and
identified components.
The project will require the successful Bidder to retain Quality
Verification Engineers (QVE) throughout the contract period. QVE
must be a Professional Engineer(s) licensed in the Province of
Ontario and qualified to provide the QVE services specified in
the Contract Documents. The QVE should have extensive experience
directly related to the work for which Certificate of
Conformance will be issued. Please Refer to section 01 45 00 -
Quality Control for more information.
Work is to be completed within eighty two (82) weeks after
contract award. The estimated cost for this opportunity is above
$5,000,001.00.
