The purpose of this Request for Proposal is: to obtain the materials and services to replace a roof at the Environment Canada weather station near Stony Plain, Alberta

We are proposing to replace the existing roof on the operations building located at the Stony Plain Upper Air Station. The roof has exceeded its life expectancy and is showing signs of significant deterioration which has recently resulted in several leaks.

Environment Canada (MSC) owns and operates a weather station just west of the town of Stony Plain, AB. The facility is on a large parcel of land which includes an operations building with an attached training trailer, a hydrogen building, storage garage and several meteorological instruments throughout the field. The facility is staffed regularly 7 days a week with rotational shift workers.

The operations building were originally constructed in the 1960’s with several additions and modifications along the way. The roof is long past its life expectancy and recently a significant leak was detected following a rain event.

Following this event we had a local roof specialist prepare a roof inspection report for the operations building. The recommendations from this report have been reinterpreted in the statement of work below which will serve as a guide for proposals.
