Tender description
The National Research Council Canada has a requirement for the supply of a
large clamshell observatory dome that opens entirely to allow for full sky tracking. The dome
must have a freestanding base, with a total weight less than 1,000 lbs. The side door should be
at least 28” x 68” in size. The clear usable height inside should be at least 3.0 m and the
diameter should be at least 3.6 m but at most 4 m to fit on our existing platform. In order to be
controlled from a distance, the dome must have a motorized opening and computer
interfacing. The successful delivery of this observatory dome will improve our ability to perform
experiments using outdoor telescopes and contribute to improved research outcomes.
