Project Title
MSS Camera Concept Study
9F052-120293/A
Description of Project
On behalf of Canadian Space Agency (CSA) located in St-Hubert,
Quebec, bids are requested from bidders on the 2012 CSA
Exploration Core Concept Study for the replacement of the
cameras with enhancement options on the Mobile Servicing System
(MSS) of the International Space Station (ISS).
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is responsible for the MSS which
was used to assemble the ISS on-orbit. As -art of its
sustaining operations and International Space Station (ISS)
inspection tasks, the Mobile Servicing System (MSS) is now
playing a key role in the logistics and maintenance of the ISS,
Free Flyer and/or Visiting Vehicle robotic capture,
installation, removal and operation of science and technical
demonstrations existing and planned for the ISS.
With the life extension of the ISS, the available space units
and the actual failure rate of the current cameras, there is a
requirement to initiate the procurement of new units.
This requirement requests proposals for Concept Studies to
explore options on the replacement of the Mobile Servicing
System Cameras on the ISS, namely the Camera Light and Pan/Tilt
Unit Assembly (CLPA) and the Camera and Light Assembly (CLA).
This activity also brings an opportunity to implement
enhancements to the baseline MSS cameras and develop new
capabilities on the ISS.
Requirement Development is part of the Exploration Core program
of the Canadian Space Agency. Through Requirement Development,
Exploration Core supports CSA's exploration planning activities
and defines the science and technology developments most likely
to be required in future space exploration missions of interest
to Canada, and assesses potential contributions that Canada
could make to such missions. Concept Studies are part of the
Requirement Development activity.
