A Contractor is required to provide dental health advice, consulting, and professional services for the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch of Health Canada in the Atlantic Region.
The Contractor will provide: (a) the on-site clinical oversight, treatment planning and support to Dental Therapists across the Atlantic Region; (b) expert advice on issues related to dental health to FNIHB directorates, Regional Executive Officer and headquarters as requested; and (c) dental health expert advice/oversight for the delivery of the Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) Preventive Dental Program in the Atlantic Region as required.
In the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch’s (FNIHB) Atlantic Region, dental services to First Nations are provided through a combined services model that takes advantage of service efficiency and economies of scale while also supporting the Branch’s strategic priorities. The majority of dental services are provided to First Nations by dentists in the private sector. Two Atlantic First Nations communities also have fully functional dental clinics that are staffed by dentists on an itinerant basis and provide fee-for-service treatment that is paid for through FNIHB’s Non-Insured Health Benefits Program (NIHB). Additionally, FNIHB Atlantic directly employs ten Dental Therapists (DT’s) to deliver primary care dental services to 22 communities on a regular basis.
FNIHB Atlantic Region provides advice as requested on the Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) and expert advice on dental health issues impacting First Nations and Inuit communities.
