Many aeronautical maps and charts used by the RCAF pilots and navigators are out dated. No revision program to modernize and update these charts exists. New RCAF aircraft such as the CH148 and others undergoing modernization require modern, fit-for-purpose digital aeronautical products that contain the latest flight information to meet their operational mandate. To help resolve this capability deficiency, MCE has been working with multiple RCAF stakeholder to develop several prototype fit for purpose digital aeronautical chart products. These products are now mature, however, mission specific requirements for each weapon platform must be carefully assessed whenever a new platform is procured.
The Geomatics Specialist (Level 2) must have the required knowledge, experience, skills and abilities to use specific GIS applications as well as military standard geospatial data and aeronautical flight information to organize, process and exploit data and information into specific digital aeronautical products for the various RCAF aircraft but focusing on the FWSAR PMO requirements.
