Line 1, Spectroscopy System

1. Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN)
An ACAN is a public notice indicating to the supplier community that a department or agency intends to award a contract for goods, services or construction to a pre-identified supplier, thereby allowing other suppliers to signal their interest in bidding, by submitting a statement of capabilities. If no supplier submits a statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, on or before the closing date stated in the ACAN, the contracting officer may then proceed with the award to the pre-identified supplier.
2. Definition of the requirement
The Geological Survey of Canada-Calgary requires a micro-Raman Spectroscopy system to boost its organic petrology and geochemistry capabilities. The new system will work in conjunction with the existing world-class organic petrographic system to produce detailed compositional maps of organic matter and minerals in geological samples. It will also provide an additional powerful thermal maturity measurement.

The ?Renishaw inVia Raman Microscope? is a research grade Raman system available. The Geological Survey of Canada, Calgary requires a Raman microscope to analyze organic matter that is very susceptible to the excess heat generated by lasers at the surface of the sample. The Renishaw inVia Raman microscope is the only system available that offers an additional Line Focus (LF) to Point Focus (PF) capability. LF focuses the laser beam along a line rather than focusing on a specific point on the surface of the sample as with other Raman systems. This reduces the intensity of the laser significantly without compromising the sensitivity and ultimately destroying the heat sensitive samples.

The proposed system must be fully integrated to allow the control and operation of the complete system from a single software platform.

3. Criteria for assessment of the Statement of Capabilities (Minimum Essential Requirements)
Any interested supplier must demonstrate by way of a statement of capabilities that its equipment meets the following mandatory specifications:
1. Must include x5, x50 and x100 objectives
2. Must include a deep depletion CCD camera
3. Must have monocular for sample viewing with video camera and trinocular with 2 eyepieces.
4. The system must have synchronous scanning and provide artefact free spectra.
5. Must havea precision of grating stage with integral encoders for positioning repeatability better than 0.05cm-1 and the ability to shift signal from pixel to pixel in synchronization with the grating stage.
6. Raman spectra must be obtained over wider ranges (for 514 nm, coverage from 100 cm-1 to 10,000cm-1) in a single scan and with resolution maintained across the whole spectrum.
7. Must be capable of being confocal without a pinhole and maintain full confocal performance throughout the UV-visible range, without the need for realignment or refocusing of the pinholes.
8. Must have a motorized beam expander to enable the use of a broad range of commercially available lasers in order to allow easy control/variation of the diameter of the incoming laser beam to match the microscope objective's back aperture for optimized laser focus and thus allow the user to have a variable focused laser spot size without moving the sample
9. Must have laser line focus hardware and optic for 532nm to prevent laser induced damage to samples.
10. The UV must use transmission optics and include short focal length spectrometer ( 8 hrs) of laser and spectrometer wavelength better than 0.1 cm-1without having to recalibrate the spectrometer for any number of grating motor movements.
18. All lasers must be external and exchangeable by the user.
19. Must allow easy integration of 3rd party laser manufacturers.
20. Must support a varietyof Rayleigh filters, including edge filters for regular Raman work, holographic notch filters for both Stokes and anti-Stokes measurements, high specification Eclipse filters for work close to the laser line, Raman/PL filters.
21. Must have line focus illumination with specialized cylindrical lenses rather than raster scanning of a point focus laser, to eliminate potential damage the sample.
22. Spectral library search software must be included along with a minerals database.
23. The software must include a site licence and therefore be able to be installed on any number of computers.
24. All cables, tubing, power cords and fittings required for installation and operation must be included along with complete operation and maintenance manuals.
25. The system must have a one year warranty beginning on the date of acceptance of the system by the site authority.
26. All equipment must be CSA approved
