FTIR spectroscopy system
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and its Prairie and Northern Laboratory for Environmental Testing (PNLET) requires a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy system capable of analyzing micro-plastic particles. The system will be used to identify the composition of particulate samples collected by ECCC’s Inorganic Chemistry Section. These analyses will support the development of science-based regulations under the Fisheries Act. In addition, data produced by the system may be entered into the court of law for the purposes of prosecution under the Act. The system will also be used as a diagnostic tool in the completion of environmental research projects.
The system must be composed of the following fivemajor components:
1. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy unit
2. Attenuated total reflectance (ATIR) unit
3. Digital microscope
4. Computing hardware
5. System software
