Survey of Current and Future Coatings-Based Hydrodynamic Drag
Reduction Technologies For DRDC, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Through judicious hull coating selection, and regular
maintenance, diminution of the hydrodynamic drag of a marine
vessel can reduce its fuel consumption, thereby reducing its
carbon footprint, as well as greenhouse gas emissions A survey
of scientific studies and product literature on coatings-based
hydrodynamic drag reduction technologies and an assessment of
the state-of-the-art in hydrodynamic drag reduction technology
is required by DRDC/ Tasks include:
1. Survey commercially available marine coatings for which drag
reduction claims are made.
2. Survey scientific reports of coatings-based hydrodynamic
drag reduction studies.
3. Survey specified and/or hull cleaning mechanisms and
intervals.
4. Survey the state-of-the-art- in coatings-based hydrodynamic
drag reduction technologies.

Completion date of this Contract is 15 March 2013. The maximum
budget for this project is $25,000.00 plus applicable taxes.

English.
