The University of Calgary plans to procure the RZ10x fiber Photometry System that includes Synapse software from Tucker-Davis Technologies Inc. This system will be used to perform calcium imaging and optical neuroscience and provides the ability to integrate electrophysiology recording and control of external behavioral devices.
To the lab’s knowledge, Tucker-Davis is the best suited system for the research and is the sole supplier that can provide a turn-key solution that uses the lock-in amplification method of fiber photometry. This functionality is required for research to allow for high-fidelity signal detection in noisy environments. Since signals are extracted based on their frequency content, the fluorescent signal is not affected by parasitic room lighting or electronic noise. Additionally, this technique allows for detecting multiple signals simultaneously off the same fiber optic cable (405 isosbestic, 465 GCaMP, 560 RCaMP, etc.).
