The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the Clinical OsteoProbe system, including Annual OsteoProbe Clinical Software Access, Diagnostics & Servicing, Annual Standard Service Plan, , Sterile Tip Assembly order (5 units), and associated training from Active Life Scientific, Inc. The UCalgary research team requires the system to support a research program investigating how type 1 diabetes (T1D) and obesity affect bone health during childhood and adolescence, a critical period for skeletal development. The OsteoProbe's portability, use of single-use Tip Assemblies, and established clinical evidence base (including prospective IDE safety data showing mean NRS pain <2 and near-zero serious adverse events), make it the only practical option for routine or study use in bone quality monitoring. Active Life Scientific is the only manufacturer and provider of the OsteoProbe® system, and holds key intellectual property associated with its design and application. To the research team’s knowledge, it is the only device with regulatory clearance specifically for measuring bone material strength, or tissue resistance to indentation, in living patients, and is uniquely capable of meeting the requirements of their research program.
