The University of Calgary Containment Level 3 (CL3) facility program intends to purchase the Seahorse XF Pro Analyzer that is required for research involving real-time analysis of energy-producing metabolic pathways within live cells. To the university’s knowledge, The Agilent Seahorse XF Pro Analyzer is the only commercially available research instrument, that the research team is aware of, capable of simultaneously measuring the two primary energy pathways of cells required for the CL3 research including the mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis pathways in living cells, within a microplate, and in real-time.
The lead CL3 program lead scientist for cellular metabolic analysis currently utilizes a Seahorse XF analyzer and considerable time has been spent establishing standard operating procedures for the metabolic analysis workflow. Therefore, it is vital that the same system is purchased for efficiency and consistency to allow for direct data comparisons from multiple biocontainment sites and data already collected ensuring reliable, publishable research data.
