The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the PX400 grinding and polishing plate, MX400 mounting press, and SX100 sectioning saw, including installation, training, add-ons, and accessories, from LECO Instruments ULC. The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires this equipment to replace aging, poorly functioning equipment used in undergraduate teaching labs. The LECO MX400 is a fully automated mounting press with an ultra-compact 8-inch-wide chassis, which is necessary to meet the lab’s space and safety constraints. The PX400 grinder-polisher is also required to maintain compatibility with UCalgary’s existing 8-inch plate inventory and supplies. Its six-specimen automated capacity is needed to support the high-throughput requirements of a cohort of more than 260 students without creating operational delays. The SX-100MC Sectioning Saw is required because it integrates with the other equipment to support a closed-loop workflow for safe and structurally sound sample preparation.
