The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase Illumina Canada’s MiSeq i100 Plus Sequencing Systems, with a silver support plan. The MiSeq i100 Plus Systems is powered by XLEAP-SBS™ chemistry, a faster, higher quality, and more robust update to Illumina sequencing by synthesis (SBS) chemistry, providing significant improvements in stability, speed, and performance. Reformulated reagents enable groundbreaking room temperature shipping and storage consumables. The instruments provide same-day results, with runtime from 4-15.5 hours. There are up to 10 reagent configurations across multiple flow cells supporting varying study sizes with flexible batching requirements. The system is suitable for the UCalgary Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine’s specific needs in regards to compatibility, data quality, and workflow integration. Illumina’s MiSeq i100 Plus system is uniquely aligned with the existing workflows, which are heavily tailored to Illumina’s short-read sequencing technology. The extensive data generated by Illumina’s platform, with its high accuracy and throughput, is critical for the department’s ongoing collaborations and research, particularly in microbiology, infectious disease, and oncology. Additionally, Illumina’s short-read sequencing has become the gold standard in the department’s field, making it challenging to transition to alternative platforms without disrupting established workflows and compromising data consistency. Given Illumina’s extensive history, high data quality, and seamless integration with current systems and library types, it is the UCalgary Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine’s understanding that no other supplier offers the same level of compatibility or reliability for the department’s specialized requirements.
