The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the Eclipse Ti2E Inverted Microscope with CSU-X1 Yokogawa Spinning Disk from Nikon Canada Inc. Instruments Division. The UCalgary Microbiology Immunology and Infectious Diseases Department’s research spans multiple platforms across UCalgary and requires optimized advanced microscopy systems for intravital imaging in live animals. To ensure compatibility, consistency, and comparability, the existing and planned microscopy systems across these platforms are being harmonized with identical imaging systems and software. Since the imaging protocols have been established using Nikon’s proprietary optical components and published in multiple high-impact journals, acquiring a new Nikon Ti2-E microscope platform is essential to maintaining research continuity and compatibility with existing protocols. As a result, no other option is suitable for the department’s needs. It is the department’s understanding that Nikon Canada is the sole supplier of an Automated Inverted Research Microscope integrated with a Spinning Disk Confocal and an Advanced Research Software Platform that provides outstanding abilities in intelligent guided image acquisition with excellent expandability for possible future upgrades, high optical resolution images, fast acquisitions and advanced analyses for real-time imaging under wild animal research conditions, with the capabilities of remote access and control of the imaging platform.
