The University of Calgary intends to purchase Illumina Canada’s NextSeq 1000, next generation sequencing (NGS) system with 5 year service contract along with proprietary consumable/reagent kits which will be ordered on an as required basis: P1 XLEAP-SBS Regent kit, P2 XLEAP-SBS Reagent Kit and XLEAP0SBS Read and Index Primers.
The Wild Microbiome and Immunology Centre (WiMIC) requires this system for microbial identification and quantification, along with a wide variety of applications as the instrument will be in the WiMIC Core facility. This system will be used with existing Illumina systems currently used in the International Microbiome Centre. It is a mandatory requirement that the same system is purchased to ensure compatibility and consistent sample processing preparation, sequencing technologies and analysis to the current systems. Specifically, over the past 10 plus years protocols have been fully developed on these systems and the instruments will be used for comparative studies analyzed among programs using Illumina NovaSeq, Illumina MiSeq and other Illumina systems enabling accurate comparative identification of microbial species within a microbiome, essential for microbiome studies.
