The University of Calgary (UCalgary) intends to purchase the Thermo Scientific Tundra Cryo-EM system, which includes the Tundra instrument, Vitrobot (Vitrification Robot), Ceta-F camera, Smart EPU Software (Cryo-EM Acquisition Software) and the Grid Assembly Workstation, along with the annual service maintenance plan from Thermo Fisher’s authorized Canadian distributor, Systems For Research Corp. The Tundra provides biologically relevant resolutions, typically in the 5-7 Å range, ideal for routine SPA and screening applications. Its Ceta-F Detector supports advanced features like motion correction and radiation damage compensation, ensuring high-quality images even during fast, high-throughput data collection. While not aimed at atomic-level resolution, the Tundra provides sufficient resolution for screening Cryo-EM studies. To UCalgary’s knowledge, the Thermo Scientific Tundra system is the only system designed for labs focused on screening with the ability to collect data for mid-resolution 3D reconstructions, which aligns precisely with UCalgary research needs.
