The Canadian Chronic Disease Surveillance System (CCDSS) is a collaborative network of provincial and territorial surveillance systems supported by PHAC. The CCDSS was originally created to improve the breadth of information about the burden of diagnosed diabetes in Canada for a wide audience comprised of policy makers, researchers, health practitioners, and the general public. In 2009, the CCDSS was expanded to include the surveillance of hypertension and mental illness. Since then, additional expansion has added chronic respiratory (COPD, asthma), ischemic heart disease, heart failure, osteoporosis & related fractures, stroke, MS and Parkinsonism. Additional pilot and feasibility work is underway regarding expansion to include: arthritis and related joint conditions, Alzheimer’s disease & other dementias, epilepsy, and schizophrenia and delusional disorders.
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) seeks to obtain information on the capability of potential suppliers, to conduct a study analysing the continued validity of several case definitions for identifying patients with specific chronic conditions in Canada. The study will be multi-year (estimated four (4) years) with the flexibility to address a minimum of 6 of the conditions identified above.
The study is to include a minimum of two provincial and/or territorial jurisdictions, with at least one of the provinces being Ontario, British Columbia or Quebec due to the need for a large sample size.
Respondents to this RFI are required to:
Identify how they would be able to work with other provincial/territorial jurisdictions to complete the study requirements;
Provide confirmation of capability to access provincial or territorial CCDSS administrative databases (physician billing and hospital records) and electronic medical record databases or similar reference standard;
Provide confirmation of ability to conduct validation studies by querying linked databases using statistical software such as SAS;
Provide confirmation of experience in providing study reports and recommendations.
This is not a bid solicitation and will not result in the award of any contract. Information resulting from responses to this RFI will be used in determining a future procurement strategy.
