Grand Banks Juvenile Fish Sampling Vessel Charter
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) will be chartering a fishing
vessel to conduct a mid-water trawl to harvest juvenile fish on
the Grand Banks off Newfoundland and Labrador coasts. Vessels
must be certified by Transport Canada to conduct research work.
The objective of the project is to study the biological effects
of operational discharges from Grand Banks oil production
platforms (Hibernia, Terra Nova and White Rose) on the early
life stages of fish by measuring hydrocarbons and associated
indicators of exposure e.g. mixed function oxygenase (MFO
induction).
The juvenile fish sampling is planned to occur in May, June and
July 2015, with option years proposed for 2016 and 2017, to
collect and store juvenile fish (3-9 centimeters in length) at
different sampling stations around the development offshore
platforms and a control site north of the development areas for
measurements of effects from the operation discharges.
Please refer to the Request for Proposal for evaluation and
other proposal requirements and the Statement of Work for
complete details on vessel requirements and description of work.
