PROJECT OVERVIEW
a) Overview: The Government of Alberta’s (GOA) Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) Ministry is looking for a contractor to conduct the 2027 Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Tracking Survey (ESATS). The contractor will be responsible for updating, conducting and analyzing current survey data and previous results of Albertan primary agriculture operator’s perceptions about and implementation/use of environmentally sustainable agriculture (ESA) practices. This survey is a data source for GOA and AGI reporting. This survey provides feedback and needs assessment information for ministry policies, programs and services supporting environmentally sustainable agriculture in Alberta. The ESATS is a long-standing survey, therefore consistency and continuity in the methodology is important to allow for comparison to previous years including 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023 and 2025.
This project supports AGI in demonstrating accountability and transparency to Albertans by indicating how AGI’s policies, programs and services support the agriculture industry in achieving sustainability, which encompasses economic viability, environmental stewardship and social values.
To see previous reporting of the ESATS, vendors are recommended to review the previous ESATS reports, which are available at: https://www.alberta.ca/environmentally-sustainable-ag…
b) Project Objectives-
The first objective of the ESATS is to measure farm-level use of ESA practices and Decision-Making Support Tools and Resources by primary agriculture farm operators/producers in the previous production year.
- Measure rates of adoption of ESA practices relevant to Ministry policies programs and services areas.
- Measure awareness and readiness of Alberta producers to meet current and emerging ESA policies and initiatives that have expectations on agriculture production systems.
- Compare, where possible, the survey results to previous survey results and trends.
The second objective is to provide the database of current and historical data to support development of a dashboard (i.e. Power BI). This includes providing the formulas used to calculate the adoption rates to support the dashboard. The information provided must be sufficient for the GoA to independently replicate the Contractor’s calculations and obtain results consistent with those presented in the reports.
