Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation (AGI) - Water Infrastructure and Operations Branch (WIOB) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 10 billion dollars of provincially owned water management infrastructure. The infrastructure includes dams, river diversions, canals, pumphouses, pipelines and drainage works. This infrastructure provides water security for irrigation districts, industry, businesses, municipalities and individual users.
AGI is also responsible for supporting Alberta Drainage Council which oversees 10 drainage districts in Central Alberta that periodically require technical support from the department.
Operations, maintenance and repair work for this infrastructure is critical and is an ongoing focus of the Branch. Many maintenance and repair projects are large in scope and complex in details. Engaging a Consulting Engineering company to provide services and project management is needed to ensure that maintenance and repair activities are completed safely, appropriately and for the best value. WIOB’s Central Operations business unit requires these services to support water infrastructure in Central Alberta.
