Summary of the Work

1. This project concerns the construction of a new steel pedestrian bridge at Old Chelsea Picnic Area in Gatineau Park and related trail improvements linking the Old Chelsea picnic area to the village of Old Chelsea via two entry points, one at Scott Road and the other at the Old Chelsea Cemetery.
2. The project is located on NCC land in the deep ravine and on the embankments formed by Chelsea Creek southwest of the village, as shown in the attached aerial (AIMT) photo and map attached below.
3. The scope of work below is intended to serve as a guide it includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Install safety barriers, site information for public, and environmental protection measures
  • Improvement of access where required (soil and vegetation protection, vegetation removal and tree cutting where permitted)
  • Construct new concrete abutments
  • Emplace prefabricated steel bridge
  • Construct new trail and timber stairs to bridge
  • Soil and vegetation remediation as required

4. Access is severely constrained. Material will move by hand or small machines and workers by foot. Bridge will be lifted in by crane.
5. Site conditions and work methods have been discussed with NCC Environmental staff and proposed mitigation effects are included in the drawings and specifications. Additional directions will be provided as required by the NCC Project Manager or Construction Managers on the PM’s behalf.

A NON MANDATORY site visit will be held on Friday August 15, 2014 at 10 am Ottawa Time. The meeting place will be at Old Chelsea Picnic Area Kingsmere Road, Old Chelsea, Quebec

All costs incurred by the Bidder to attend the site visit will be at their expense. The NCC will not reimburse any Bidder for expenses related to the site visit.
