Under the guidance of the Departmental Representative, a Contractor with extensive experience in life-cycle analysis in the Canadian electricity sector will be asked to improve and expand the existing analytical framework (“the calculator”) that evaluates environmental impacts of electricity production from five generic electricity sources: coal, natural gas, hydro, wind and biomass.
The analytical framework (“the calculator”) is available on request.
The improvements will consist of i) reviewing and improving the existing methods, data and assumptions, ii) adding a layer to represent the management of grid integration, iii) and related cascade impacts, and iv) additional electricity sources or technologies. Methods to estimate environmental impacts will be refined.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) intends to use the deliverables of this work to inform its ongoing advice on matters retaining to the Canadian electricity sector.
