Bow Valley College has fully integrated the use of the invigilation monitoring tools provided by Respondus, Inc. into our core Learning Management System Platform – D2L Brightspace. A significant number of resources and training material for these tools have already been created and they are also directly supported by our Student Services, ITS, and Professional Learning teams.

Respondus LockDown Browser
Custom web browser specifically designed to secure the online examination environment. When students use Respondus LockDown Browser to access an exam, they are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, or access other applications. This effectively locks down the testing environment within the learning management system (LMS), preventing cheating. Key features include:
- Prevents access to other websites, applications, and system functions during an exam.
- Integrates with our LMS D2L Brightspace, providing a consistent testing experience for students.
Respondus Monitor
Improves upon the security of Respondus LockDown Browser by adding a layer of automated, AI-driven proctoring. It uses the student’s webcam and microphone to record and analyze exam sessions. Key features include:
- Utilizes AI algorithms to monitor and flag suspicious behaviors during exams.
- Allows large-scale implementations, capable of monitoring thousands of students simultaneously.
- Provides instructors with detailed session reports and flagged incidents for easy review.
- Ensures student data is handled with the highest standards of privacy and security.
