Gas Chromatography -Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
The Environment Canada (EC) Organics Analysis Laboratory (OAL)
conducts determinations of trace organic pollutants in air
samples collected in the Great Lakes Basin and the Arctic. Gas
Chromatography -Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is the technique of
choice for the analysis of polybrominated diphenyl ethers
(PBDEs), alternative flame retardants (BFRs), and
perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS). OAL requires a new instrument
with advance technologies in order to detect these analytes at
trace levels in ambient air samples. The required components for
this system are:
Gas chromatograph
Mass Spectrometer
Autosampler
Computer/software
