Full description

NOI 24-104 was issued 2024-12-03 to notify the market of The City's intent to purchase VMware software and maintenance and support for a three (3) year period, with a forecast of $5,650,760.00 USD.

The Scope of Project includes:
The City of Calgary provides notice of its intent to contract directly with Broadcom Inc. to source the VMware software products, maintenance and support. Broadcom Inc. is the only provider of the software, updates, security patches, maintenance and support for such software. Broadcom has confirmed to The City of Calgary that they can provide best pricing and superior services, in lieu of a reseller.

The City selected VMware International Unlimited Company as the City’s Virtualization program in 2002 and has continued utilizing and investing with VMware for product licensing and product maintenance and support. To maintain, secure and assure the compliance of the VMware software required for The City’s virtulization platform, The City will procure VMware software directly from Broadcom Inc. for it’s current needs, future upgrades, patches and continued maintenance and support.

VMware’s virtualization technology, is essential for our IT infrastructure. It enables The City to run multiple virtual servers on a single physical server, significantly enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and supporting business continuity and remote telework.

The City has invested significant costs and and investment with VMware. Any changes would involve considerable investment in resources, skills, training, security, compliance and timelines to avoid any disruption. It would require new licenses, hardware upgrades and significant time for migration and testing. The existing applications and workloads would be impacted and cause significant downtime, which would disrupt productivity and service delivery to The City.

During the three years The City will monitor the market and see what other offerings and emerging technologies are available. Notice is hereby given by The City of its intent to negotiate a new agreement directly with Broadcom Inc., for the provision of VMware software and maintenance and support to The City of Calgary for up to a three (3) year term.
