The NRC-HHT Portfolio currently has two animal facilities (Montréal and Ottawa) each requiring its own Animal Care Committee (ACC). However, following an in-depth evaluation of projected future requirements that are in-line with NRC program priorities along with current costs and usage, the decision was taken to consolidate within the Ottawa facility. Consequent to this merger, there is an immediate need for continued oversight during the transition period.
The ACCs provide an ethical oversight for all animal use and maintenance within the animal facilities - this is a strict requirement of the Canadian Council on Care (CCAC) - and is essential for the continued certification of the NRC facilities. The ACC will provide the assurance that during this period the ethical standards set by the CCAC will continue to be observed. In addition, the merger of protocols will require the coordination of the two committees.
