Do Not Substitute:
This cable is used to lower the CTD - Conductivity, Temperatute
and Depth system through the water column from the CCGS Hudson,
Canada's largest Oceanographic research vessel. This system is
one of the primary tools used by Oceanographers to monitor the
ocean for climate change and its effects on the ecosystem. This
cable is replaced every 5 to 7 years due to wear, corrosion and
shortening due to re-termination. The cable is placed on a
specific winch with a base Lebus shell to properly lay the cable
on the winch drum and tuned spooling gear to ensure the cable
lays properly on top of itself. Any deviation from the above
specifications will make the cable unusable causing the
cancellation of cruises on the Hudson which supply information
for decision makers.
The manufacturer must have at least 20 years of experience
supplying similar electromechanical cables to the Oceanographic
community.
Full technical requirement forms part of the Request for
Proposal (RFP) solicitation document.
