Background:

Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott, has utilized the Sure
Lock scaffolding system since 1987 and has a significant
inventory of Sure Lock parts that are not compatible with other
scaffolding systems. FMFCS shipwrights work extensively with
Sure Lock scaffolding and have considerable expertise using this
system. A different type of scaffolding system would require
adiitional training and adjustments to current scaffolding
procedures.

Since no other type of scaffolding can be integrated with Sure
Lock brand, FMF CS would not be able to replace damaged or
missing componets in their current inventory with a substitute
brand.

Using multiple versions of scaffolding equipment would also
introduce the potenial for accidental interchange of scaffolding
components which could have potentially catastrophic
consequences.

To mitigate this risk, separate storage and inventory procedures
would have to be created and a new storage area would have to be
designed.
