Willow Rock comfort station services the Willow Rock Campground located in Bow Valley Provincial Park. The campground is located at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 1X, approximately 80 km west of Calgary, AB, and 30 km east of Canmore, AB. It is a popular destination for camping due to the proximity to major city centres, tourist destinations and Highway 1. The campground has a total of 124 campsites, 40 of which are reservable. While interpretive trails bring some day users, campers are the primary users.
The existing comfort station was constructed in the 1970s and has had no significant repairs or renovations since. The building is comprised of two washrooms (mens and womens) and a laundry room. The aging building and associated utilities are becoming a safety concern for staff and the public. In response to these pressures, Parks Division plans to replace the existing comfort station, and associated infrastructure (the Project).
