PROJECT OBJECTIVE: Reduce overall surface fuel loading to decrease the intensity, rate of spread and potential for crown fire of any wildfire occurring in the identified areas of the park. The treatments are designed to reduce potential fire behavior and increase successful suppression opportunities in forested areas of the park directly adjacent to Hilliard’s Bay Community, Shaw’s Point Campground, and Alberta Park’s residences. The recommendation also describes fuels reduction treatments in the immediate vicinity of several critical values at risk, so in the event of a wildfire they are more likely to remain undamaged and continue to function.
Treatment locations are as follows (Map 1):
a. Fuels Reduction Area A
b. Critical Infrastructure
SCOPE OF WORK: Contractor is responsible for all necessary equipment, tradesmen, and supplies for the completion of the following scope of work, including any required snow removal. Due to the site location and terrain, contractors must utilize the following equipment and project approach:
- Only utilize small, specialized equipment (ie. narrow tracked skidsteers) and no large equipment off of the main roadways/parking areas.
- Must utilize hand thinning and pruning using chainsaws, brush saws, pole saws, etc. or small specialized equipment
A. Fuels Reduction Area A: Est 2.11 ha (Map 1)
B. Critical Infrastructure: 1.2 ha (Map 1)
